Winston S. Churchill — The World Crisis (Complete Five-Volume Set)

Thornton Butterworth, London — 1923–1929

A complete and carefully assembled five-volume run of Winston S. Churchill’s monumental First World War memoir, The World Crisis — one of the most important firsthand political and military accounts of the conflict.

This set comprises:

  • The World Crisis: 1911–1914

  • The World Crisis: 1915

  • The World Crisis: 1916–1918, Part I

  • The World Crisis: 1916–1918, Part II

  • The World Crisis: The Aftermath: 2 editions available!

Written close to events and informed by direct participation at the highest levels of government, these volumes trace Churchill’s wartime experience from the gathering storm through catastrophe, recovery, victory, and the uneasy peace that followed. Together they form not merely a history of the Great War, but a sustained act of interpretation and self-examination by one of its principal architects.

All volumes are published by Thornton Butterworth in the original navy cloth bindings with gilt spine titles and blind-stamped front boards. The distinctive shoulder notes — Churchill’s marginal summaries guiding the reader through strategy and argument — are present throughout. Maps and inserts are complete where called for.

Condition:
Overall Very Good to Very Good–, with the expected light wear consistent with careful library and private ownership. Cloth remains sound and presentable; bindings firm and hinges secure. Light foxing and toning to preliminaries in places, commensurate with age. A coherent, visually harmonious set with strong shelf presence.

A serious and attractive set, suitable for collectors of Churchill, twentieth-century history, or foundational works on the First World War. Increasingly difficult to assemble as a matched run in original cloth.
